New Interreg Project “Danube PlaceCraft”  will Boost Placemaking and Sustainable Tourism in the Danube Region

The Interreg Danube PlaceCraft project has officially started, bringing together a group enthusiastic partners from across the Danube region. Between 2025 and 2027, the partnership will explore how placemaking can enhance sustainable tourism and strengthen social cohesion and quality of spaces in the rural communities.

Through creative collaboration, local engagement, and the exchange of knowledge, Danube PlaceCraft aims to transform local stories, landscapes, and cultural heritage into meaningful places for residents and visitors alike.

In Danube PlaceCraft,  placemaking approach will become a tool for building sustainable tourism models that respect local identity and foster a sense of belonging.

The project brings together partners from Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria , combining expertise in urban design, cultural management, rural innovation, and environmental sustainability.

Over the next three years, Danube PlaceCraft will host a series of local pilot actions, artist-in-residence programmes, capacity-building workshops, and participatory events that will demonstrate how placemaking can unlock new opportunities along the Danube.
